I think Heresys will work well. I use a pair in an apartment, they sound very good laid on their sides on bookshelves (some think they sound best on their sides) at ear height. They have excellent clarity and dynamics and image very well, indeed they image better than my Big Hog Altec A5s and A7s did, even when I used Edgar saladbowls. Maybe some of this is the room.The Heresy uses a 12", fairly efficient woofer in a small box. Klipsch chose to give up low bass in the interest of gaining low distortion and fairly high efficiency for the given box size, a reasonable tradeoff. The speaker does lack low bass and has a somewhat light tonal balance. However bass impact and clarity is very good. I makeup for the light tonal balance by (gasp) turning up the bass control.
