They were designed more that 50 years ago when the amps were 30 watts or so. The idea was to fill a room as best they could with what was on hand. The A7 was designed to do the job in the small to medium auditoriums, where an A4 was too large.
I suppose you have something bad to say about the A4 also?
Get your head out of the sand!
Those two designs are classics. If you are going to use todays standards to measure the capability of something from a half a century ago, then you are simply looking too hard for faults.
