I did hear a similarly exotic Stage Accompany ribbon PA system recently. The servo controlled bass was actually the most impressive thing about it.

That is my current opinion.
> do cone drivers on horns "lose detail" vs compression drivers - or is that a function of the tweeter which augments the cone/horn combo? - what do you hear? - can a 1st class system be built with cone-driven midhorns? - is it better to go 2-way with compression?
Like I say, at this point in my limited experience, I think the cone driven wide band / fullrange horn mid + supertweeter makes more sense. I don't really like the sound of HF drivers pushed too low - they nearly always sound harsh, and most HF compression drivers are in break up mode for the entire top octave. Using a wideband cone mid lets you place the crossovers totally out of the sensitive bandwidth and use a good supertweeter that is doing 10-20k as its main job rather than an afterthought.

Yeah, it actually did 20K but didn't sound so good after bouncing around the horn throat. Funky dispersion too. RS pod tweeter kicks butt. I wonder what the fostex T90A sounds like.

Lemme see, any of the sigma E series seem good. I have a pair of the little 4" 108E. Super transparent mids, a little scratchy at the very top but they aren't broken in and just in test box.
For serious bang for the buck, any of the aluminum dustcap FF series look suitable: either the FF125K or FF165K. They both have rising response and super low Q / hulkin' magnets. May be best with a compression chamber. I like the FF125K quite a bit, with a couple tweaks (Thor' and Bruce Edgar hate it). Also, the FE206E or FE166E are worth looking at. Larry Moore and Dave Aukerman like the 206E a lot in their front horn. I'd slice the whizzers off and use a supertweeter myself, but that's just me.
