I have a pair of 12" Calrad fullranges with whizzer cones; they probably look a lot like your 8 inchers. Many of the old Japanese speaker drivers, from the 1960s or earlier, were very well made. I took apart a pair of almost-matching Pioneer 12" three ways that had apparently been assembled from kits. The 12" woofers are a real treat; one can see elements of RCA Duo-cone, W.E. 728B and JBL D131 in their design. The 5" midranges look a lot like junior 755As.
