You can certainly critique some aspects of LP bass, mostly doing with extreme LF phase response (still much better than most speakers, however), but the 10-13 bit effective dynamic range (I'm being generous here - see postscript) of the typical CD ultimately causes it to come out 2nd best when compared to any decent LP. And, it should come as no surprise that almost all CD's are peak and average limited just as LPs are. Pitch definition, spatiality, imaging and inner detail across pretty much the whole audible range are musically critical areas where CD comes up short, in particular. I've never, for instance, heard really detailed pitch accurate bass from a CD. If you are sufficiently aware of audio history, Philips originally planned CD to be a lower audio quality alternative to vinyl, much as the cassette was to open reel.I don't include SACD and DVD audio in this critique of the relative deficiencies of CD relative to LP.
PS: The lowest level 30 or so db of any linear PCM encoding process will exhibit over 3% quantization distortion. Yeccchhh!!!!
