Thanks Thorsten - (again for your input on a driver/inverter for my EL34 amp in the tube forum)Paul Klipsch also viewed damping as limited by inherent coil resistance - still I assume qes can be modifed (increased) by an amplifier's Z-out.
The old 1950's variable damping schemes claimed to reach a negative source Z characteristic - (somewhere in a 1950's Radio Electronics I have an article by George Augspurger showing various frequency response interactions with speaker input Z for different damping settings) in a way I'd like adjustable damping if it didn't otherwise compromise amplifier transparency - I note Peavey uses some sort of variable damping in their Classic 120/120.
