It apparently achieved what Hegeman wanted to balance out the sound in the EICO speaker. Dick Shahinian built the "Contrabombarde" subwoofer designed by Hegeman. I don't know if symmetrical or not - "maybe". Some were built with slots on the bottom and elevated on castors. The one in he link has its output on the bottom sides edge. To my limited knowledge it had two custom 8 inch Oaktron woofers. It could sound pretty good in a small room. I had one and IIRC, suspect a well designed BP4 might do about as well. It was very heavy being made of high density fiberboard and one of the few things thieves didn't bother taking from my old house ()which was 50 feet from the county jail and police)
