Re: Fostex FE168 Sigma - Kurt Strain, what did you cook up?

HI
I have a pair of the 168s horns that terry Cain of cain&cain has built ,they are just amazing speakers they have changed me to the single driver set up.
I picked the speakers up at VSAC and it has been love ever sense.
I thing for speaker they or the best bang for your buck.
The speaker system I was using before the show was a MTM
Transmission line with eton7" with the heat pipe, -3 at 25 Hz & a focal tweeter + a rear firing dyne audio tweeter inline with the rested of the speaker with a series crossover they make a big diff to me, but any way the efficient was 95 dbs and they ran me to build 1700.00$ for the parts and lumber & they were great great! Speakers I use them for my recording studio for 4 years
And always got great mixes. But then I heard fullrange and traktix horns with tad drivers and that's the end of tweeter woofer set-ups for me.
The terry Cain horn is giving my 35 to 40 Hz in my room ezlly the high end is as go as my old speakers or better but the really magic is in the mid range of this set up it is just right no funny crossovers there or two drivers like a tweeter & woofer doing stuff at different speeds the mids are right I will never use a speaker driver that can not do 400hz and up any more it has been a life changing moment at VSAC WITH THE CAIN&CAIN & SEHRRA BROOKS STUFF I no what speakers I like.
But any way 168 or a great driver espeslly for the money there is noting better to my ears for the price put in terry Cain's box's he has a great combo.
The one thing that I did because living with TL's for so long I still need that bass and note definition that they give, so I disconnected the tweeters and rewired the crossover which is still series & wired the Eton's for 16 ohms sub set up and I IM in heaven the bass is as low as it goo's. You don't get much faster then 6" 168 + 6" Eton's that give allot at 25HZ.
The 168 are running in parallel with the subs with no crossover in its way and it is a great set up.
Faster deeper bass then SB not as dynamic as the SB because of efficiency but better tone, THE MIDS AND HIGHS OR NOT AS
GOOD AS THE TAD DRIVERS THAT SB USE, NOT AS FAST OR DINAMIC AND SOME DETAIL OR LOST COMPAERD TO THE SB. But still great tones and balance vocals sound so good.
