It's listed in the 1972 and 1973 "Stereo Directory & Buying Guide". I checked the 1970 thru 1975 Directories and those were the only two years it was listed.
The prices were $269 (1972) and $315 (1973). I assume that was for one speaker, not a pair. Unless it was a mis-print, the "W" was dropped from the model name/number in the 1973 edition.
Hitachi had another speaker, the model HS-500, that had the exact same retail price as the HS-1400W (both years). I find this odd because the HS-500 was a much smaller, much less elaborate two-way speaker. Maybe the list price shown for the HS-1400W was a mistake, but if it was, it wasn't corrected in the next Directory.
