Peaks gobble up headroom like crazy!.
So far as software, try Audacity, that one is free and does some analysis.
I don't know what the software Mr Gymwear is using but it seems very cool.
Actually, i think because you can't specifically hear this, that seemingly few have gone this direction.
This is the kind of thing you can only hear when you have a "with and without" case to compare to.
When i heard it in the amplifier blind test, i couldn't believe it until i looked at the amp output on a oscilloscope.
Sure enough when they started to hear a slight "difference" it was the onset of this very short clipping of dynamics.
Personally i wouldn't be surprised at all if this dynamic effect were partly why high efficiency speakers have a following.
