Hi timp,
Oh, no I didn't build those, I wish I had that skill though. Those are commercially made GPA Altec Duplex speakers (which GM had a hand in development).
Yeah I have a modded SET amp right now (a bit ruthless with sources - not the usual romantic sounding), but I also had PP pentodes, and I still have an old Quad SS amp that needs refurbishing. I only have FR driver direct radiators, none are front horn loaded. Some FR's could sound great and natural in the mids but most really are Widerange rather than FR, so youd need to fill in the freq extremes if your taste in music is quite broad. Most find that the top tier whizerred FR drivers are at their best when mated with a very good front horn, so far I haven't heard one, only compression drivers with horns. I also run a pair of vintage coax (Japanese), but the tweeters are too colored sounding for my taste so maybe I'd relagate them one day in a HT setup as surround speakers(?).
