Hi Phillip -my system 100 is probably a decade old - has JBL 2220H on m=0.6 ~1/4 size 100Hz horn, rectangular particleboard tractrix horn w. JBL LE-5 and Polydax PR-130 tweeters (w. LCR trap)- - series 3-way pasive xover - my phono preamp is a dual mu-follower design w. 12AX7 mu-follower 1st stage, battery bias on the 2nd 6dj8 stage and 'lumped' passive RIAA eq - its just a phono stage w. ~50dB gain @ 1Khz which drives a 15K stepped attenuator and whatever load is in parallel. Amps include my own 85lb parallel 2A3 SE with 5842Q IT coupled driver, modified Eico ST-70 using push-pull parallel 6BX7 triodes - phase inverter stock 6SN7 - 1st stage 6DJ8 no loop nfb in either of these amps. Bass is augmented with 'Monolith' 1/8 size 40hz horn
I've run the whole thing with a few watts - cnsidering the 100Hz horns are padded ~6dB to match midhorns they can't get more than ~1.5 watts out of triode amps - still with snesitivity ~109dB theres some punch- biamping using good tube and simple RC networks would give better dynamics.
system has been dormant for a year or so but when running very good quality overall - vocals and string bass nearly "real" - I measured my LE-5 on axis to be pretty flat from ~275hz LF corner to about 6Khz-the push-pull triode amp has more upper bass control than the SE (better DF and more primary inductance than the SE)
are you thinking of building from scratch or buying from Bruce? -either way I think you could having a nice system.
Freddy
