To me the ideal situation would be a DSP board in a PC that was programable in a high levels block diagram fashion in multi channels.You see I use the PC for the video processing and the CPU could not afford the time to do complex audio too. But there is no reason that a DSP borad could not use the PC as a nice home for complex filters, crossovers, whatever I wanted it to do, ala the Behringer piece. But inside of the PC, the cost of a simple PC card should not be much more than an audio card. The software is where most of the work is.
At any rate when you hear about someone doing this let me know.
