Ooooooh -Thoughts of the Model 19 conjure up warm feelings in the cockles of my heart!
There probably never will be another home hi-fi loudspeaker system that sounds quite as real-to-life as the Altec Model 19! The 811 horn, the 802-series driver, the 416-8B woofer - all these combined to make a MAGNIFICENT sounding system that is unmatched in efficiency, clarity, spatial characteristics, and naturalness for s system it's size. It would take a fully horn-loaded system like the Altec A-4 with wings to get close!
Their only drawback was the passive crossover. I used to custom build Model 19's for my customers using a better crossover - one with polypropylene cap's, air core inductors, etc. - it really seemed to improve the sound.
Depending on their condition and price, my advice is BUY THEM!
If you get them back up to speed, you'll neve want or need to own another set of speakers for the rest of your life!
Do remember that genuine, new Altec parts for this system ARE available from Great Plains Audio (see the link on my site).
