I also have these same drivers. A cabinet similar to the Model 19 is a good suggestion for a design. The ideal cabinet is around 9cf. You must be able to align the horn mounting plate around 1 inch back from the front of the cabinet. There are some Altec Notes that will explain how. The purpose is to eliminate the phase reversal at the crossover of 800hz. The 811 horn will vibrate and needs to be dampened. You also need to attenuate the HF since it will be more efficient than the 416 in a bass reflex. Do you have the original crossover? I think it is the N800-D. Some have had challenges upgrading the older capacitors. By the way it should be kept as a 2nd order Butterworth. The most optimum is an active crossover of course. The Altec alnico's are claimed by many to be superior if they have not lost their original magnetism. Some people have added a sub and or a tweeter to cover the lower and upper end. Others just prefer the 2 way as it is.
There are many favourable comments on the sound of these drivers in the archives along with excellent suggestions to improve their performance.
