Back loaded horns can be nice if the driver cone is dense enough and the horn is large enough. I had good results with Eminence Beta 8s after trying a total of 8 different drivers, including Lowthers. They cross neatly to Selenium slot tweeters (3.5K 4th order acoustic 2nd order electrical, in phase for all transients). They are never less than 97 dB/W sensitive. I can show you pics if you email me at dayfamily6@earthlink.net.
I made these to kick butt with 2A3 amps, but have gotten 115 dB at the listening chair 10 ft away with a 50 WPC amp, just tickling the clipping LEDs.
They sound good on all music, but only Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody sounds good @ 115 dB.
