Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

altecs, lowthers...

wow... I can't believe that there is someone else out there basically paralleling my latest playing around...

I have my setup where I can swap in ten minutes or less among three speaker systems...

fostex tweeter/altec 290 on 311-90/evm12l in 100 cycle horn/powered 4x12 cabinet with labsub woofers

lowther dx4 in azura/4x12 cab

fostex tweeter/dynaudio d54 in tractrix/evm12l in 100 cycle horn/4x12 cab....

lot of fun... I think the detail that you think you are missing over the lowther is really just a very different frequency response... the lowthers are getting a bit peaky right where the 290 starts to roll...

at my house, the d54 is still the most emotionally involving.... but the least resolution...

the lowthers really need me to finish another bass horn so that they can again do their thing... the woofers just kill the music's flow... even with the top horn extending down to 120 cycles... IMHO, the very forst thing that should be horn loaded in a system is the bass... midrange is *second*... the lowther horns do everything on the checklist properly, but the woofers just call off the party...

the altecs do that compression driver thing... insane midrange dynamics, but still colored like a horn a tiny amount...

I laughed at your post b/c I don't own the 290's, but I have a pair of 288=16k's that need diaphragms! hey, how low can I go with 288's and steep crossover filters? is 300 achievable?

what to do, what to do... it's all good...

Peace,
Me
