Hi:290s provide an efficient smooth MR sound from 300Hz to about 7K. You will need a tweeter like a JBL 2405 above this for HIFI full range sound. You likely will find this combo preferable to a 288 by itself.
288s use an Aluminum diaphragm which will not fit a 290 and will also give a nice MR sound with higher freq output depending on the model. The G series or later with Tangerine plug will likely not need a supertweet where earlier models may depending on your HF hearing ability/tastes.
Both provide superior MR sound in your 311 horns.
