IMO - nost of the power in bass drum is in the upper bass region - one reason why a good horn can excel - the Karlson can pack quite a powerful upper bass with good pitch definition - I think when Dr. Edgar tried to freeze a bass drum whack on a Telarc CD in the 1993 Speaker Builder Monolith article that maximum energy was around 40Hz - the flare rate for this 1/8 size horn.re:Karlson - in a way is reasonably flexible with drivers - I have one running with EV SP-15B - low moving mass seems important - horn integration with the slot's output may require a bit of distance - is partly dependent upon the crossover frequency so a nominal 1K xover will sound IMO more coherent sitting close than 1.6K with a horn such as 811 - I liked an Emilar EH800 "bowtie" horn - seemed to have less horn artifacts.
the Karlson box is compact and 'interesting' - sometimes can surprise
