vintage woofers are all over the map. the 4 pairs of 2220 i had on hand to experiment looked brand new-ish but sound-wise they were tired and boring. i have tried out 10 pairs of 515b and 15 pairs of 415z/a . most different sounding. i think re-coning gives a better idea of performance.. but its not clear that re-coned units match originals in behavior. if i had to choose, a re-coned vintage unit would be pr eferable to both 'original' cone vintage woofers and modern woofers. that os my data experience so far. it might change if it get different data points.
