LA Scala with an Altec 515

I have an opportunity to get a pair of La Scalas. My goal is to use the bass cabs. I have 515b's and figured those would be better than stock. I searched the forums and got one hit from Bruce Edgar. He says they will go but the slot needs to be widened to 6 inches vs. 3 in. The same post says the opening for the woofer is exactly the 15 in. I measured my 515 and it is about 15.25in.

Has anyone done this? Is it worth the effort?
