RE: Altec 288C vs. Altec 292-8A

288 has an Aluminum diaphragm with extended HF response. These can be used without a tweeter.

292 has a phenolic diaphragm that will handle much more power, but the HF rolls off above 5kHz. They were designed for voice range at high SPL. They make good mid drivers in Hi-Fi systems when used with a tweeter.
