hi with both low pass and high pass at the same slopes on an active system should be in phase ,sometimes amps of different calibre can also alter the amp output but you will hear it at 800 to 1200 hz easily
the valencias do use the smaller horn and it is crossed at 1200hz you can also try simple 12 db slopes at 1200 hz as altec intended
i use a marchand crossover as well and could not live without it ,the usni makes altec drivers shine shine shine
