Don't get me wrong, I am NO set in stone audio snob. Hell, I may hear and fall in love with a pair of these speakers. However, As detailed and real as my Beloved (They have since passed away, To Japan)Chartwell LS3\5a's were, I could NEVER imagine shoving them in room corners to try and benefit from all that is horn loaded! Somewhat conventional two way cone/dome speakers such as the venerable Chartwells and Audio Notes' should, in my opinion, be able to STAND ALONE. They should not require boundry emphasis to gain efficiency, tone, dynamics and what ever improvements folks are gaining by shoving these AN speakers into corners. Inmy many years as an audio hobbyist, corner loading was/is for bass augmentation. We learned many years ago to try our best to reduce early reflections above the bass realm as much as possible. We designed far narrower and less reflective cabinets, we decided that moving our speakers away from room boundries was a good thing and that treating our rooms with some variations of tuning devices would further eliminate early relections and help preserve a more natural approximation of the original venue. DISCLAIMER, I am absolutely not talking about horn type speakers, such as K Horns with a corner loaded BASS horn yet a very directional compression driver/horn top end which is hardly affected by corner positioning.
So, what happens to the sound of an Audio Note speaker sonically if one were to position them away from room boundaries and add a top notch and very fast woofer/subwoofer? Or are these smallish two way speakers totally dependant on corners for everything, not just bass? This must be some special speaker system to take us back to the time of the Linn Sara (although IsobaraK?? in woofer design), which I owned and shoved them against the wall as prescribed. YUK!
Yet I have read nothing but rave reviews about these AN two way cone speakers shoved into corners. I think I'm going to go gain some weight back.
