my favourite has been recycled wool batting used by furniture makers for chair restoration etc,but you have to glue it in place and cut it to form, other problems is you have to use moth balls just in case
although i d0nt make blh anymore i also use them in my altec cabs, you can get them from car upholstry/fabric stores
diy means experimenting with many materials i know someone who swears by shredded jeans and old sweatshirts
