Re: How ya expect TD15M to perform? (see website)

Hey Fred!

Those definately are some 'interesting' set of drivers there from Lambada. Thanks for the link.

I'd 'expect' these drivers to be great for 2-way applications, especially where you need to use their mid-range capability and cross-over relatively high.

However, if I was to use them exclusively for bass and cross-over at about 200-400Hz, these drivers wouldn't figure in my list of choices. More so if I intended to push it to it's power limit.

1. The cone-profile is curvilinear, under high excursions, this profile cone does tent to flatten from the outside more easily. Also the MMS is only 70 grams, implying that the cone+surround assembly weight would probably be around 40-45grams. Being a paper based cone, this means that it is probably thin and not very strong - again more prone to de-formation. (The cone might not get permanently damaged, but it will just be more flexible.

2. The X-Max of 3.3mm: Despite the normal magnet weight and 2" coil, this driver boasts an impressive Bl of 27.6 T/m. I would give credit for this primarily to the 18mm Flange and to some extent the 4 layers on the coil. But beware - as the coil starts to move more and more out of the gap, the magnetic field drops fast and one would find a substantial drop in the Bl.

Again, there is no doubting this driver's capability in the mid-range, and it might be very useful for low-power home-audio applications, but in my opinion, not for PA and if you like it ta hit u hard!

I have no personal experience with this driver, but I design drivers and am still learning! I've been dreaming lately about a 15 or 18" driver with a mammoth 18 lb magnet for bass-horn applications.

Rgds,
Sanjay
