Freddy,Partical board can be OK if it is the more dense, better indusrial stuff. Can't figure why the 5/8" was used except for weight over 3/4". But mdf is fiber board (read pressed paper), and stinks for strong, roadworthy cabinets. Heavy as hell too, and gets heavier still in the heavy density. Melts like the nasty witch in Oz when wet. Can't think of a good reason to have it anywhere in a speaker unless as part of a built-up laminated panel for sandwiched damping. It does machine easily and would be good for patterns, etc. Supposed to be better in bass damping duties, although I have never seen that proven conclusively. I confess, I have used it in laminated panels. Seems to work OK, but subsequently I built boxes entirely with Baltic birch plywood, and found no ringing audible when braced well. Nice stuff to work with too, though more costly. My current fav.
