Re: Pitch and perception

Another reason why I did not build a horn loaded cabinet for my new Fostex or Lowthers, other than space, is that annoying cupped hand sonics that I never liked. I used to own and sell Klipsh and JBL horns from the mid 1970s until the mid 1980s. They always offered a real sense of life in the listening room, but at a price. Thanks to forum members, I finally decided to give full range drivers a shot in a more managable bass reflex cabinet. Please keep in mind that my current speaker line up consists of; Martin Logan CLS's, Adire 10.1's (I built these), Chartwell LS3\5a's, and B&W Nautalis 805's. So, lots of low bass is not something that I will miss with bass reflexed Fostex 206e's and Lowther DX-3's. I am ,however, wrestling with an upward tilted frequency balance in both bass reflex full rangers.
I am now addicted to the immediacy afforded by the Fostex and Lowthers when compared with any and all of my current and past speakers. The down side is an often overberring stridency with about 30% of my titles.
