Haven't experimented with the Fostexes, but do own the DX-3s (old version). I found they improved for up to a year after I got them. They take a lot (a lot) of play in before they sound their best.I would reserve judgement until you've played them in a good long time. You have the advantage of having the Fostexes as a long term reference.
