I also am thinking about using the 2A3 for the mid (most prefer it's sound over the 300B if the power is not an issue as in horns (over 100dB/W)). This amp should be plenty for a medium sized room (107dB/W & 5db/W & 3db(bi-amp) = 115dB!, triamp(+2dB) = 117dB!), my current system at 113dB is VERY loud (88dB/W (old AR's) & 25dB/W (Phase Linear 700 II (360W/ch) = 113dB) literally shaking the entire house with low bass notes. This is loud enough in my current room for me, as I have not been able to clip the amp yet, and I like my music insanely loud at times. The 300B (9dB/W = 119dB!) could be overkill, unless you want rock concert levels or perfer the sound of this amp over the 2A3 (see my recent question in Tube & DIY Tube Asylum's about SET tube perferences per frequencies). My system is to be sourced from vinyl via moving coil. I plan to use a solid state amp with a high damping factor for the bass, but I might use a large SET such as the 845 like yours. I intend to use a 2A3 SET for the mid, and a 45 SET for the highs (future?). K-Horns for the bass (4 currently under construction, 2 for a friend), Oris 150 for the mid, homemade spherical horn for the highs. Should give a total of (107dB/W(Oris) + 5dB/W(2A3) + 5dB(tri-amp) =) 117dB, which should be good for a large room (which I perfer accoustically) in the future (32' X 26' X 16'?).
Interesting, It seems that we are both trying to create very similar systems. I have done a lot of research on this over the last year and a half. I would be glad to share the info with you. Maybe we could work together on this. Why don't you send me an e-mail to my "normal" e-mail (haugenmarka@hotmail.com) with your FAX number, and we can coorespond that way, and I can fax your the curves and so on when I find them (which may take a week or so, I am not real organized, and have too many audio papers).
