Re: Lowther - Bass Reflex ??

True. There is a way though to use vented boxes tuned to <40Hz, for folks who listen at moderate levels. By adding series resistance, Qe can be raised to allow bass extension (in larger boxes) at the expense of efficiency.

A DX3 with a Qts raised to ~0.6 yields a maximally flat alignment in a ~6.62cuft net box tuned to ~38Hz, F3 = ~35Hz, F12 = ~30Hz. Efficiency drops to ~93.6dB/W/m.

In theory, the tonal balance would better than a backloaded horn, but with the minimal Xmax, dynamic range would be limited to ~100dB.
