RE: Internal Speaker wire/cablevs external

Hi Bill,

I just read Roger Russell and was totally unimpressed. Sophomoric.

Gordon Gow trying to make wire judgements through relays on a "switch box" ??. There was no difference due to his switch box inserted in the chain, passing the signal through relays ??? Come on !! So "MY" conclusion was it equally obscured all the subtle musical clues and nuances!!

The better the system, ( and I didn't say the more expensive the system ), the more easy it is to hear the effects of wire.

I find one inch of bad wire can kill the music experience.

It did in 2008 on an modest but well regarded Eico HF-81 Integrated amp, the distance / span across the 12AX7 miniature tube socket, only about 3/4s of an inch maximum. The span connected the plate of the input stage's triode to the grid of the phase splitter triode, a short "direct couple" with crummy bell wire. Replace the 3/4 inch run with three paralleled runs of Kimber Kable TCSS, removing the bell wire, and viola, the amp played more information, better, about a twenty cent mod !!

In early 2013 I went through a Direct Coupled SE tube amp I had designed. I "wire-optimized" it BY EAR, every different span of wire in its internal construction, so I know it makes a difference. Some wire was silver, others copper ( as in Kimber TCSS ), some was Fulton wire from 1978. In places it took anywheres from 2 to 8 paralleled runs of Kimber Kable TCSS, for me to get the maximum musical expression and dynamics out of the circuit.

So Bill, you can quote who you want, I have a good sixty years of high fidelity listening and building experience in audio, and I go on record to say you are very wrong.

Respectfully,

Jeff Medwin
