Someone below mentioned burning out an Advent spkr with the output of of 25 watt receiver. If the receiver had been tube would it have done the same thing? My guess is no. Something about SS amps clipping and causing square waves? Wouldn't low and medium power SS amps be more hazardous than similar wattage tube amps?I'm still fascinated with the topic of tube amp clipping and sonic behavior near clipping. I understand it is generally much more benevolent than Solid State.
Do tube most amps clip the same? I read somewhere that the Marantz Model 9s clipped very gracefully. I take this to mean that clipping was not that noticeable until the amp was really pushed. Would be interesting to know what that means in actual listening terms. What about MacIntoshes, or Audio Research, CJ, Cary and VAC?
