Finally got around to hooking my diy set 71a amp up to the model 19's tonight. Now I admit the amp is at 3/4 throttle and the pre is at 1/2 throttle, but we are talking a whopping 1.5 watts per channel here folks, and by doggies it works and works well.
We are not talking high energy classical passages or rock & roll concerts, but for acoustic music, small combo jazz and chamber music it is a knock out. The 71a has always been one of my favorite tubes for it's sweetness, clarity and surprising good bass.
Also tried my mono Eico HF-32 through one channel and was pleased with the sound of that as well. It runs 4 6BQ5's in push pull for a total of 30 watts in mono. Now that really made the 19 sing. May have to try and find either another HF-32 or an HF-30 to come up with a stereo pair. I could disconnect all the tone controls and and such in the 32 and have the equivalent of a 30 I think. Ought to really be something to hear as the 6BQ5 is a sweet tube too. Has any one ever tried them in in SET?
