Straight 8s compared to "store bought" speakers

I realize that Straight 8s are covered in detail on the Bottlehead forum, but most of the postings involve construction questions. I am more interested in objective opinions of the Straight 8s compared to regular speakers, and not other DIY high sensitivity products--The only other speakers I have seen them compared to is Rod Ms' Vandersteens. (I am almost ready to take the plunge based on his comments alone.)

BTW, I do not want something that looks homemade--so based on the beautiful pictures, I would have Rods' brother build and finish the cabinets.

I have a pair of Meadowlark Shearwaters that I am very happy with, but I feel as though I should be able to get more out of my ASL 1005DT integrated 300B. Are there any Meadowlark owners who have purchased the Straight 8s?

How do the Straight 8s image? Is there a very narrow "head in a vice" sweet spot, or do they sound good in a wide variety of positions? That is as far as my interest in imaging goes. I am more interested in dynamics (low volume as well as high volume), and tone--do people/ instruments sound real?

Thanks for all tips/advice.
