My tad td-4001 drivers are in 31" x 31" jbl 2360a biradial horns. I get no horn shout, and the sound is very smooth to my ears. Perhaps you heard them with ss amps? My 4001'se are the older variety to be sure. There is a pair for sale now on you know where for 1299 a pair. I paid $1150 a pair for mine used on agon. I drive mine with either 300b, or 45 SET mono block amps. These drivers started out in the pro audio circuit with the 1970's Eagles tour. They got rave reviews back then to be sure. I was lucky enough to have seen the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Boz Skaggs at a show in that year together in MA. It sounded very good. So not all tad drivers are grating to be sure and fair. If you can find a pair used in good working order like I did for a fair price then they are worth it to me. I replaced my JBL L300 speakers with these 2-way speakers. The TAD td-4001 drivers I bought crushed the L300 speakers for detail and sound quality. John
