Too bad the more I push for range and live dynamics, the less gestalt I get...Yes the parallel idea has occurred to me. And I love the 6SN7. I have yet to hear a more modern, neutral implementation of the 300B, although I am aware that they are out there. The stages you mention sound interesting, as does Dennis Boyle's version. But if 8 wpc doesn't do it, I doubt another 3 dB will, either. OTOH, it's also a matter of keeping the amp coupled to the drivers...
Yeah, I'm still futzing with the Lowthers (www.blackdahlia.com; Diamond Edition BassZillas) just because of that "gestalt".
Again, you can't beat a nice 45 -- within its limits.
