I do not own the smaller boxes, but it doesn't take rocket science to figure this out. If I were you, I might well temporarally plug the Fostex holes with something I could get out again if I wanted, - I think the driver's frame will cover the unwanted holes? - and I'd at least try those DX3s in the smaller box, with some sort of thin-ish loading/damping like Whisper Mat inside. Also, forget the zip cord Dicks insists on and use something a little better at least to hook them up. I tried that zip cord myself, because he just kept on about it; but that was the first real impovement I made to the 2.5s. As for the Fostex, it seems like the people who best love those are people who most hate the Lowther "spikes" at 2.5k and 8k. For me, the choice gets down to clarity and immediacy, which, on CLEAR source material, is all in the Lowther's favor. YMMV, of course; but if you put up with the CLS, I suspect that you'll wind up with Lowthers of one stripe or another. Just keep in mind that source is VERY important for the Lowther, because it WON'T smooth over the nasties. FWIW, my Ortofon MC 3000 II somehow makes many formerly-nasty records sound like music.Paul S
