Paul,To late! Already built the 2.5s. Mr. Dicks claims that his big port 2.5 design (a single six inch port) tunes the cabinets for better mid bass. So, that is exactly what I put together for my new DX-3's. They now have about a week of round the clock play and at this point I would have to agree with your assesment of weak mid and upper bass. Plus, these speakers are often very strident and painful to listen to. I have recognized a similar stridency with the Fostex 206e's in my smaller 1.3 cabinets. But, to my ears, the Fostex boxes are more deliniated and musical.
