Re: You'll never get a 15" to 650Hz in a folded horn; i.e. mass roll off. (nt) probably right - my 100Hz Edgarhorns

If you look at the 1946 PWK crossover for the Klipschorn it has a high Q section to boost the mids from the folded horn. Big caps were expensive so he did it at the plate impedance level ahead of the output transformer, and used a second small transformer for the highs.

The 1976 J-horn patent also has this, as do the post 1980 versions of the AA networks for the Klipschorn/Belle/LaScala (AK, AL, AB).

In general, the higher the mass corner on the woofer, the less the x-max. I usually pick the longest x-max driver that will 'make' it to the crossover point. With a high Q crossover I can generally 'make' the crossover an octave higher than the mass corner.

Community makes what looks like two little J-horns mating on a center axis. Uses dual 12" drivers and claims to go to 70hz (24" X 24" mouth). Crosses at 600hz to a 2" throat co-axially mounted mid horn/driver, and a 1" at 4Khz. With a touch of EQ, 250hz cut, these sound very 'hi-fi'. Mainly for paging, they also can do music at reduced levels. Above 100hz they can really do it. I was using a bridged AB International amplifier rated at 2.8KW and just pouring the coal to them!
