Hello Wayne,Honestly I've only given all the claims one quick read through at this point. I understand the technology reasonably well, but Tom Danley is the one to address your question directly. I'll talk to him and see if I can get an appropriate answer.
To more generally answer the question though, this patent has been 3 years and 3 months in the making. This is filed as a new design, not an improvement upon others. In general terms, there are two factors to take note of. First, is that this design provides for a workable and predictable means to coherently load a mulit-way system in one common horn mouth. The second, and very unique quality of the design is that with proper design and layout, the combined electroacoustic system is time correct, resulting in smooth phase and amplitued resposne throughout the entire radiation angle of the horn. The design is scaleable to various size, flare types, and frequency ranges as desired. The factor of having the system aligned properly is critical as this does not require the use of external processing, and holds true in the speaker's field of operation. I don't know of any other design which allows for these qualities to be executed for any frequency range desired(of course still requiring appropriate dimensions).
I hope that answers some of the questions.
