RE: My First High efficiency speakers and tube amps, advices please

About 15 years ago I heard the Fostex FE108Ez driver in the BK10 backloaded horn cabinet along with the T900 tweeter and I was impressed with the sound and value for the money. The BK10 was the smaller of the 3 back loaded horns they were featuring then. The 5K Hz crossover they recommend for the tweeter should work fine, and if you use a first order/6 dB per octave crossover, you could try wiring it as a series or parallel circuit as the parts values will be the same. It would be relatively easy to get the tweeter in phase with the front output of the woofer, and the tweeter I saw was mounted on a dowell rod sled so it could be adjusted back and forth for this purpose. As one of the other posters advised I would try as many amps as possible, and let the speakers pick the amp they like. Damping factor is not much of an issue in this design with a large magnet/over damped driver like that particular Fostex. Once you get the speakers up and running there is room for experimenting. The main limitation on bass performance will be the relatively small bass horn mouth, and you can try experimenting with making this larger by placing some boards at the sides of the cabinet which can be angled out about 45 degrees. Try different size boards and angles.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Paul
