I would suggest listening to a similar speaker / tube amp setup prior to making any firm decisions. A lot depends on how important bass is to you - whether you can live with reduced bass on an on-going basis.
The bass response for an 8" is what it is, and there is only so much you can squeeze out of it.
Lower power SET amps will have a hard time driving bigger woofers. so your flexibility with the system after the fact is somewhat limited.
Listen to a system with a solid bass response as well, to make sure you know what that sounds like. Then you are more equipped to decide on the right direction forward (unless you already have experienced this).
Depends on what you like, and as said in an early post it is all about tradeoffs. I also just want to try stuff as well - sometimes it works out and sometimes not (but always interesting).
