Terry, I likely would agree; those are fascinating alignments, however, this fellow has the SEX amp, and I can say that the SEX amp is a tad underpowered for the FE108 SADLY, because those two would be as far as I am concerned really tonally kosher. I think the 108 is the jewel in the Fostex crown, personally. VERY organic sound to it once broken in. I tried it high passed @ 140Hz on an open baffle and I can telll you it is a far more interesting sounding driver.
AND, a good set of 6DN7 tubes in the SEX amp with some upgrades STILL is almost completely overlooked because they are not fashionable enough. Good NOS RCA are incredibly stout and clean sounding tubes in this circuit. I owned the Korneff 45 alongside the SEX and the little Bottlehead stood on its own as a very, very good amp in its own right. It is a short cut to good SE sound on the cheap. It deserves appropriately sensitive drivers, shame the 108 is out of the offing. Its bigger brothers are clearly not, however, and the 168 is the best all round driver, technically, for a BIB, no sub needed there either, and offers an honest 94db. I have a pair in my living room for the last two years.
