I must clarify my earlier description of the Phillips. The player is not overly wrm, just warm, full and present with bloom, like real music. So much digital I have heard is dry, etched, threadbare and devoid of any fullness or body. Digital has had a problem sounding very two dimensional and the SACD 1000 departs from that foible. My reference is analog and I would characterize that as very warm. I want the music to be very warm, but not blurred and congested. That is the magic of analog...warm, but no congested and blurred. Real music is very warm as the sound of a bow sliding over violin strings. The Phillips manages to impart some bloom and sound like real music. I recently took it over to some didiphobes house who scorn digital and they compared it to their HK turntable and switched two identical recordings (Lp and cd) back and forth. They could not tell which was playing. To say they were impressed is an understatement. Needless to say he wants one and I haven't got it back yet. He will problably buy one from Oade by the end of the week. Comparison was with a low end table by HK, and Ortofon cartridge. The Phillips won't perform equal with top end analog rigs, but will be muiscal and retain the tonal balance of the music just not all of the space of good analog. Many digital players have managed to reduce the glare and hash, but they haven't created the body to give weight to strings, violins and cellos specifically. I will be keeping this Phillips for a long time. Jallen
