Has Sony made a profit from SACD?

I think everyone would agree that if Sony ever pulls out of SACD, the medium is all but dead. Does anyone know the bottom line, whether Sony has recouped its expenses on SACD? If this part of the company is operating in the red, it is not inconceivable that an executive might look at the numbers and simply pull the plug.

Having said that, however, Sony does have a history of supporting its own proprietary technologies, and it has the size and clout to singlehandedly keep exclusive formats alive. MiniDisc is still around though it has always been a small market. Sony kept Betamax going for years even after it was obviously a lost cause. I am certain that Sony’s silly “memory stick” format will never catch on, but almost just as certain that Sony will keep making products that use them.
