I have not heard Zander’s Mahler 6th. However, in general Zander is a bit of an iconoclast with original and unconventional approaches to music. Although I think he is one of the most interesting conductors today, I tend to think of his recordings as interesting alternatives to more “conventional†versions. Thus Zander does not immediately come to mind if I were to own only one version of any particular work, but I do not hesitate to purchase his recordings simply because I am interested in hearing his interpretations.
