The recordings may convey a sense of occasion from the circumstances of the live concerts they were taken from. By coincidence, the Mahler “Tragic†6th Symphony performances began the day after the 9/11 attacks. The Mahler 1st performances were the week following. Both received favorable reviews in the SF Chronicle:
