New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

you misunderstood

Now with hybrid SACD's, the player DEFAULTS to CD layer. No need to select CD via Sound Mode button for individual discs. When SACD is desired from a hybrid disc, then the Sound Mode is manually selected. Hybrids do not play SACD layer automatically when inserted, but play CD instead, so it's kind of an inverse function of the Sound Mode. This is supposed to prolong laser life. Of course, none of this would be necessary if the laser were not a piece of crap. I guess Marantz fixed that on later versions.

Do you want to hear SACD every time you put one in the player? I don't need SACD sound to do chores or eat dinner. I prefer to conserve laser life for when I really want to pay attention to the music. Then it's easy to hit that magic button and get incredible sound. Last night, the MoFi hybrid "Blonde on Blonde" compared to the Sony single layer. Lousy recording that sounds okay on the Sony disc, but MoFi SACD gets every last bit of realness out of it. Damn, it goes deep into the mix, and every vocal inflection is clearly portrayed.

Peace,
