I agree wholeheartedly about eBay risk, and I avoid buying electronic components directly from China. These were from a US supplier with 100% feedback. The lasers were made in China, as were the originals, but at least I'm reasonably assured they aren't used salvage or otherwise inferior. It works now, and that's my point.
Yeah, that HOP 1200R (or S)laser is a black eye for Marantz, and they realized it early on so the subsequent editions use a different mech. But I think all the SACD lasers are unreliable, maybe not to the same extent. When you consider what they're required to do, it's hardly surprising that they don't last long.
